Media accreditation opens for 2018 IBSA Goalball World Championships

A player from the US women's team releases the ball during a match at the Rio 2016 Paralympic GamesMedia are advised that they can now apply for accreditation for the 2018 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Malmo, Sweden.

The competition, which runs from 3-8 June, is the biggest event ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Media and broadcasters can apply for accreditation at until 31 May.

A total of 28 of the best men’s and women’s teams will compete at the Baltiska Hallen and Baltiska Träningshalle for world titles. It will also be the first chance for athletes to secure quota places for their countries for the next Paralympics.

In the men’s, defending champions and Paralympic bronze medallists Brazil and Paralympic title holders Lithuania will open their campaigns on 3 June. Lithuania take on Algeria in the group stages whilst Brazil will play Rio 2016 silver medallists the USA.

The USA also have good form in the women’s as the gold medallists from the 2014 edition. Paralympic champions Turkey are another major force.  The teams will play their opening matches against Greece and hosts Sweden, respectively, on 3 June.
