Six blind football nations from the Americas region will contest for gold and Tokyo 2020 qualification.

Football 5-a-Side will make its fourth successive appearance at the 2019 Parapan American Games and participating nations are already preparing for the quadrennial competition. Who will be crowned the best blind football nation in America? Here is the vital information to help you decide.

1 The sixth edition of the Parapan American Games will take place in Lima, Peru, from 23 August to 1 September. This is the first time that the games will be staged in Peru, and the Football 5-a-Side competition will take place at the Villa Maria del Triunfo Sports Centre.

2 Brazil have won gold at all three editions of the Games since blind football was introduced to the programme: in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, in 2007; in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2011; and Toronto, Canada, in 2015. Argentina have secured silver three times, missing out on gold to Brazil in each final by a single goal.

3 Hosts Peru, reigning champions Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and newcomers Costa Rica will play each other once during the round-robin tournament. The top two from the group stage will advance to the gold medal match, with the winners sealing a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Football 5-a-Side competition.

4 Raimundo Alves Mendes from Brazil finished top goalscorer in the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games Football 5-a-Side competition with seven goals. Brazil are strong favourites to claim gold once more after winning the IBSA Blind Football World Championships title for the fifth time in Madrid, Spain, in June.

5 Argentina and Colombia will give Brazil a fight for gold, albeit it will be interesting to see what the hosts Peru and World Championship debutants Costa Rica and Mexico have up their sleeve.
