News about the growth of blind football in Malaysia is coming thick and fast. Here is a round-up of recent events in the country.

Malaysian Blind Football Championships 2014

Six teams from four regions - Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Selangor and Sabah - took part in the championships, hosted by the Malaysia Blind Sport Association and the Malaysian Sports Council in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

The round robin tournament finished with two teams tied on ten points - Kembara FC and Team Blind Tigers, but Kembara took the title thanks to a superior goal difference. Team Phoenix came third. Disability football coach Sunny Shalesh said the tournament also aimed to identify and select new talent for the Malaysian Blind Football team to participate in various international tournaments, such as the Incheon Asian Para Games 2014. “We shall call up 16 players for trials and they will undergo a training programme with MSN. Ten selected players will then be named by June this year before the registration for the Incheon Asian Para Games. There is also another local tournament at the end of May, which will serve as a secondary selection process."

The Malaysian national blind football team recently finished second at the 2014 Asean Para Games in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, losing out to Thailand in the final.
