IBSA Goalball world rankings – May update

Above you can find the links to the IBSA Goalball world rankings as of 30 April, 2014.

This month there has been a bit of movement at the top of the rankings due to the depreciation of points from the 2011 IBSA Goalball Paralympic qualifying tournament held in Turkey. This led to some teams dropping butt surprisingly, other teams rising.

Men
The male top 10 remained the same in terms of teams but there was a bit of movement amongst them. Algeria jumped back up to number three, equaling their highest spot yet. This rise is due to very consistent results recently. In April they placed second behind Lithuania at the Vilnius International tournament.

Finland who continues their build up to the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships have also moved up, back to number six for them.

The biggest drop amongst the top ten was for Canada who went down from 4 to 7. Other teams dropped a spot or two but that was due to the movement of other nations around them.

One nation who has largely benefited from the depreciation of points is Australia. They have risen up to 12 from 19. This is the highest position they have held to date.

Women
China reclaimed their number one spot this month. They changed spots with Canada who have gone back to second position.

The only other change in the top five is the re-entry of Russia at five.

The Aussie women have also had a good boost up the rankings moving to an all new high at 6th.

Finland now round off the top 10 after slipping three spots. So, like the men, the top 10 nations remain the same, just in a different order.
