IBSA World Games – Goalball schedule rereleased

  • Date: 23-03-2015
  • Related to: Goalball
Due to some mistakes within the original schedule for the upcoming 2015 IBSA World Games to be held in Seoul, the goalball match schedule has been rereleased.
Goalball matches will commence on May 10, 2015. Hall A (Jangchung) will feature male matches on day one. Current Paralympic silver medalists, Turkey, will kick start the proceedings against their opponents from Central America, Mexico. This match will be followed up by another Pool A match. It will be the first time that the home crowd will get to see their men in action when they take on current reigning European silver medalists, Spain. This is certainly a tough opener for the host nation.
The first look we get of Pool B will be at 11:00 when goalball heavy weights Lithuania take on Venezuela. Following that match will be a clash of two Asia/Pacific nations when the top Asian country, Iran, battle it out with Australia.
The other remaining nations in the men’s competition will not start until Monday 11 May. In Pool A Czech Republic will face off against Egypt and Germany will face Sweden. In Pool B, China opens against Belgium and Canada and Japan will meet each other.
Women’s matches will be taking place in Hall B (Jamsil) and will also not be starting until May 11. The first match is an intriguing one with current Paralympic silver medalists China meeting emerging African nation of Ghana. These two sides have never met. After that will be two top European nations colliding when Israel meets Spain. Later that day Finland will open their tournament against Greece and Ukraine will meet Denmark in the remaining Pool X matches.
The first Pool Y match we get to see is when Paralympic champions Japan take on another emerging African nation, Algeria. If the Algerian women are anything like their male counterparts then they will be no push over. Then we will get to see the women of the host nation for the first time when Korea faces the strength of Canada. Australia v Great Britain and Sweden v Germany are the remaining Pool Y matches that day.
