The international tournament is an annual affair on the blind football calendar and is run by Pirsos Blind Sports Club. Next year's tournament has been brought forward to May to enable some of the countries that have qualified for Rio to take part in a top-level event prior to the games. A number of countries have already confirmed their involvement in the event.

At the same time as the international tournament the 2nd IBSA Challenge Cup 2016 will take place. It follows on from the highly successful first Challenge Cup in Prague in July 2014.

The tournament is aimed at emerging blind football countries in Europe and a maximum of six countries will compete. It is run as part of the UEFA-funded IBSA Blind Football Development Project Europe.
