Rio 2016 organized a Goalball test event in Future Arena, the site of the 2016 Paralympic Games Goalball competition, on 4 and 5 May, 2016. This invitational competition included the top 4 finishers from the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships (Espoo, Finland): Brazil, Finland, USA and Lithuania.
The test competition format was a single round robin with the two top finishers advancing to a final match.
While a competition is a large part of a test event, the event tests numerous game-related funcionions that include logistics, transportation, coin toss and march-in protocols, documentation flow, material and results management, accousting evaluation, announcement practices, the venue, and medal ceremonies and helps to ensure the execution of a flawless Paralympic competition.
