Russia wins Malmo Lady Intercup Goalball tournament

Russia came out top at the recent 2016 Malmo Lady Intercup in Sweden, defeating Turkey, USA and Brazil in the second group stage to take the title.

The tournament brought together sixteen national teams to take part in one of the biggest preparation events in the run-up to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in September.  

The Russian team proved too strong for Turkey (2-1), the USA (4-2) and Brazil (1-0) in tight low-scoring games in the final stage.

Turkey finished second, Brazil concluded in third place, and the USA team had to make do with fourth spot.

Top scorer during the tournament was Anja Christensen from Denmark on 25.
